The ERC Environmental Research Laboratory at Sahand University of Technology is operated by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of Sahand University of Technology to provide facilities for water, wastewater and air treatment. The laboratory was opened in 2000 and expanded in 2001.

The ERC Environmental Research Laboratory conducts research into ways to prevent and reduce risks from pollutions that threaten human health and the environment. The laboratory research objectives are identified in the following four research areas:

• Cost effective methods for preventing and controlling pollution to air and water
• Protection of water quality in public water systems
• Development of tools and technologies for preventing industrial pollution and for sustainable development
• Economic alternatives for environmental improvement

The goal of this laboratory is to promote the development of environmental technologies; to develop scientific and engineering know-how, and economic information to support regulatory and policy decision makers; and to provide the technical support and information transfer to ensure implementation of environmental regulations and strategies at the national, international and community levels.
